The Real Problem:  An Absence of Culture

The April 1st anti-gun rally outside the Thompson Center in Chicago only shows the failure of the city's 1982 handgun ban.  Twenty-six years of disarming and vilifying law-abiding firearm owners have failed to stop the violence in Chicago.  In fact, it has only increased the violence there.

Are politicians naive enough to actually think criminals and gang-bangers go through the proper channels to get firearms?  Politicians can make all the useless gun control laws they want, the criminals don't follow them.

Is Chicago's violence problem of today due to the presence of firearms or the absence of culture?  Firearms do not get young girls pregnant.  Firearms do not create drug addition.  Firearms do not create a welfare system which traps young women in dependency and keeps them there.  Firearms do not create music which glorifies hatred.  Firearms do not teach young people that they are not part of America and that they have no share in it's future.  Firearms do not cause people to urinate in the halls or defecate in the stairwells of public housing projects.  Firearms did not create schools which do not teach.

These conditions can be traced back to the enemies of our culture, and each of these ills is in some measure, created by government.

We need to remind politicians that they work for us and we demand some things given back to us:  morality, the 10 Commandments , chastity, monogamy, permanent marriages, fidelity and, two-parent families that teach their children respect for life and others.  We need to recognize the difference between "freedom of religion" and "freedom from religion."  Without these things all the laws we can create will not solve the problem of violence in cities like Chicago.

Stop wasting scarce law enforcement dollars to punish and hassle law-abiding firearm owners, concentrate that money and effort on those social misfits and hoodlums who are the real problem.  Swift and certain punishment for the crimes they commit is something even they can understand.
