  • Razer is launching new laptops designed around productivity rather than specifically for gaming.
  • The Razer Book 13 comes in three variants, starting at $1,199.
  • The laptops will go on sale starting this month.

Razer has always been the “for gamers, by gamers” brand — I mean, that’s their company tagline after all — and while the company’s high-powered laptops have always been solid gaming machines, they’re also just great for overall productivity. The same kinds of high-end hardware that is good for gaming are also good for video editing and other creative work, and the speedy CPUs can do whatever you want them to do.

Combined with a reputation for sturdy construction and impressive build quality and you can easily see why Razer’s Blade lineup has often been seen as the “MacBooks for Windows users.” Now, Razer is building on that notion in a big way by introducing a new … Read the rest

Back in 2016, I could count on one hand the kinds of interventions that technology companies were willing to use to rid their platforms of misinformation, hate speech, and harassment. Over the years, crude mechanisms like blocking content and banning accounts have morphed into a more complex set of tools, including quarantining topics, removing posts from search, barring recommendations, and down-ranking posts in priority.

And yet, even with more options at their disposal, misinformation remains a serious problem. There was a great deal of coverage about misinformation on Election Day—my colleague Emily Drefyuss found, for example, that when Twitter tried to deal with content using the hashtag #BidenCrimeFamily, with tactics including “de-indexing” by blocking search results, users including Donald Trump adapted by using variants of the same tag. But we still don’t know much about how Twitter decided to do those things in the first place, or how it … Read the rest

Businesses allocate a lot of resources in making sure that their systems are secure. forums are a different animal as you cannot use your hands to calm people down, your eyes to show your joking and your tone of voice to show you mean well. It is really a great exercise as a writer to learn how to communicate better through words because you get real-time feedback. Radio frequency and power of microwave for industrial applications, electrical machines and drives’ design, solar cells, and power and energy conversion are some other notable research areas of University of Cambridge. Due to its exceptional properties, graphene is considered for several different innovations. Scientists, researchers, and businesses are on the move for using graphene in many fields such as electronics, energy, and medicine. Below are some of the projected uses of graphene. 5 VPN: Most firewalls and routers support virtual private networks (VPNs), … Read the rest

  • Netflix is testing a new feature called Direct that will let subscribers watch a real-time TV channel that would feature shows and movies from the service’s massive library.
  • The channel will be running at all times, so you can tune in and out whenever you like.
  • Netflix Direct is only available in France at this time, and only for Netflix on the web.

Netflix was one of the first companies to bring movies and TV shows online, allowing subscribers to watch a massive library of original and licensed content on demand. It has its faults, but Netflix’s user interface has outclassed and the size of its library has outsized that of many competitors throughout the years. But one thing that Netflix has not ever attempted is giving users the ability to let the service take over and tell them what to watch.

Of course, Netflix has plenty of suggestions and … Read the rest

Nearly 4,300 exoplanets have been discovered by astronomers, and it’s quite obvious now our galaxy is filled with them. But the point of looking for these new worlds is more than just an exercise in stamp collecting—it’s to find one that could be home to life, be it future humans who have found a way to travel those distances or extraterrestrial life that’s made a home for itself already. The best opportunity to find something like that is to find a planet that resembles Earth.

And what better way to look for Earth 2.0 than to search around stars similar to the sun? A new analysis of exoplanet data collected by NASA’s Kepler space telescope, which operated from 2009 to 2018, has come up with some new predictions for how many stars in the Milky Way galaxy that are comparable to the sun in temperature and age are likely to … Read the rest

Apple is looking to invest even more into podcasting.

What you need to know

  • Apple has held talks to acquire Wondery.
  • Wondery is one of the largest independent podcasting networks.
  • The deal could eclipse $300 million.

Reported by Bloomberg, Apple has apparently held talks to acquire Wondery, the podcasting network behind popular podcasts like “Dirty John” and “Dr. Death.” According to people familiar with the matter, it could be the largest podcasting acquisition yet.

Wondery is seeking $300 million to $400 million in a possible sale, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the negotiations are ongoing.

Apple is one of four companies that have held talks about buying Wondery. Spotify has also had talks about acquiring the podcasting network but has reportedly dropped out of the race.

Apple and Sony are two of at least four companies that have discussed a deal with

  • Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a sequel of sorts to 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man from Insomniac Games, picking up where the last game left off.
  • Explore the same city, but with new characters, new missions, and a completely new story.
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be available on PS4 and PS5 on November 12th.

Two years ago, Insomniac released the best superhero video game ever made. Marvel’s Spider-Man perfectly captured the beloved character and the city he protects in a way that no other game based on a comic book ever had before or has since. Swinging around New York City felt exactly like it was supposed to feel, the combat did justice to Spidey’s strengths and weaknesses, and the story felt like it was ripped from the pages of a killer comic arc. As much as we might have thought we wanted a game set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, … Read the rest

Though the counts aren’t finished and the legal challenges could drag on for weeks, Joe Biden’s victory in the US presidential election is looking increasingly likely. If he does triumph, it will also be a win for action on climate change. But his ability to push through any sweeping legislation will be seriously constrained if, as appears likely, Republicans retain control of the Senate.

This outcome is far from the landslide repudiation of President Donald Trump’s assaults on environmental policy, science, and pluralism that climate activists had fervently hoped for. Climate change did appear to be a motivating issue in certain regions and races, and a concern for a solid majority of voters. But polling found that the economy, health care, and the coronavirus outbreak were far more important issues to voters than climate change, where they remain sharply divided along partisan lines.

“The potential for … Read the rest
