Sitting at a laptop all day may be good for your job, but not for your health (Credits: Getty Images)

Working from home during the pandemic means many of us may be getting even less exercise than before.

There’s no more walking to the office, or running to catch a train or a bus. The lunchtime stroll may have vanished and getting to the gym is out of the question at the moment.

Sadly, the sedentary lifestyles of many officer workers – whether at a corporate or home office – is having an impact on our physical health.

Exceeding weekly recommended physical activity levels could ‘offset’ the harms caused by prolonged sitting, the World Heath Organisation (WHO) has now said.

Its recommendation, published in a special issue of the British Journal of Sports Medicine, is part of the new global guidelines on physical activity and sedentary behaviour.

Patients will also get support to increase their exercise levels

Astronaut Scott Kelly famously lived and worked on the International Space Station for 340 days—the longest time an American has spent in space. His mission gave scientists some vital insight into what happens to the human body during long-duration stays in orbit. That’s because Kelly has an identical twin, Mark (also an astronaut, and now soon to be a US senator). The Kelly twins offered scientists a rare opportunity: as they studied what happened to Scott’s body during his year in space, they had the benefit of a control subject, Mark, who stayed on Earth.

The NASA Twins Study provided more evidence for what we already suspected. In a confined capsule under microgravity and prolonged exposure to radiation, the immune system takes a hit, the eye changes shape for the worse, and there’s some significant loss in muscle and bone mass.

But we also learned about some surprising effects. Kelly … Read the rest

Well said that the ‘contemporary society is nothing but a technology juggernaut’ and the phenomena is driven and shouldered by engineers. While other technological inventions may have had already been developed prior to the foundation of science, “technology” is not yet a proper term for such. The word technology, after all, is always correlated with science and both science and technology are mutually inclusive to one another, strictly speaking in terminologies. Computers of today, however advanced they may seem, have had its origins in humble beginnings. Socializing: People access the Internet to socialise and to connect with other people with similar interests. The rise of social media has played a big role in making the Internet more popular than ever. Using the new technique, a neuroscientist can order a design which the engineering team can transform into a computer model which feeds instructions to the printer. The printer then applies … Read the rest

Streaming TV should be easy, but fights among Roku, Amazon, HBO, and NBC are making it hard.

When Wonder Woman 1984 opens in theaters on Christmas Day, most HBO Max subscribers will be able to watch the movie at home. Emphasis on most: Right now, that group of HBO Max subscribers does not include those who use a Roku device to watch streaming TV.

This is because Roku, which dominates the US market for streaming devices, and AT&T’s WarnerMedia, which owns HBO Max, don’t have a deal to put the new service on Roku’s streaming boxes, sticks, and TVs. If the two companies don’t get a deal done soon, it’s unlikely they’ll have anything in place for the holiday season, according to people who work at both companies.… Read the rest

Archaeologists at work at a mass grave on the city moat in Vianen, the Netherlands (Credits: EPA)

A disturbing mass grave of 20 skeletons has been unearthed in the Netherlands.

The bodies were found in Vianen by city workers excavating a moat. The majority of the remains belonged to young men aged between 15 and 30.

It’s believed there could be more in the area and experts estimate those inside lived between the late Middle Ages and the 18th century.

At first, workers only found nine skeletons last Friday. But when they returned to the site on Monday, they found eleven more.

Alderman Christa Hendriksen, one of the archaeologists, said she was ‘surprised’ by the discovery and even more that the bodies had been stacked, according to Teller Report.

If you’re in the market for a new iPad, today’s your lucky day as Apple recently unveiled is new 8th-generation iPad during its September press event. It is the latest affordable model in to Apple’s tablet lineup, alongside the mid-range 2020 iPad Air that was also announced, and you can order it right now at a discount ahead of Black Friday.

Like the 7th-generation model before it, the 8th-gen iPad is the gateway product to the iPad platform with prices starting at just $329. Despite its low cost, the device is no slouch.

Apple’s 2020 iPad makes the jump to the A12 processor, up from the A10 in the last model, which will help it keep apace with other products in Apple’s lineup and add support for future iPadOS updates. The design has remained similar to the previous-gen model — no iPad Pro-style redesign here like in the new

Advanced Engineering Mathematics Book for III semester students. Sensors are specialized electronic devices that detect changes in quantities such as temperature , electrical power levels, chemical concentrations, physical position, fluid flow, or mechanical properties like velocity or acceleration When a sensor responds to change, it usually requires a transducer to convert the quantity the sensor has measured into electrical signals that are translated into printouts, electronic readouts, recordings, or information that is returned to the device to control the change measured. Specialized resistors and capacitors are sometimes used as combined sensors and transducers. Variable resistors respond to mechanical motions by changing them to electrical signals. The thermistor varies its resistance with temperature; a thermocouple also measures temperature changes in the form of small voltages as temperatures are measured at two different junctions on the thermocouple. Usually, sensors produce weak electronic signals, and added circuits amplify these. But sensors can be … Read the rest

  • Microsoft has announced the four free Xbox games being given away in December.
  • Xbox Live Gold subscribers can grab The Raven Remastered and Bleed 2 for Xbox One, and Saints Row: Gat out of Hell and Stacking for Xbox 360.

One of the most frustrating parts of buying a console at launch is the lack of new games available for the console on day one. Thankfully, Microsoft gives away at least four games to Xbox Live Gold subscribers every month, so as long as you’re subscribed, you can pick up all four games for your new Xbox Series X or Series S.

Unfortunately, the selection isn’t especially compelling, but Saints Row is always a ridiculously good time.
